Abstract:  Provides relative to the extension of Medicaid coverage for individuals experiencing
postpartum.
Proposed law provides that subject to approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS), on and after Apr. 1, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) shall provide
postpartum Medicaid coverage to eligible pregnant individuals who qualify under the state's
Medicaid plan, 1 year after the end of their pregnancy.
Proposed law prohibits LDH from furnishing such coverage until the legislature appropriates the
necessary funding.
Proposed law provides that LDH shall promulgate all such rules in accordance with present law as
are necessary to implement the provisions of proposed law.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Health and Welfare to the
original bill:
1. Provide that postpartum Medicaid coverage to eligible pregnant individuals who satisfy
the state's Medicaid qualifications is subject to approval by the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services, on or after April 1, 2022.
2. Provide that the Louisiana Department of Health shall not furnish any coverage absent
the requisite funding from the state legislature.
3. Make technical changes.
