RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 33 (HB 532) 2021 Regular Session St. Blanc Existing law provides that prior to engaging in any activities related to moving household goods, an intrastate mover of household goods must meet certain requirements, including securing a common carrier certificate from the La. Public Service Commission (commission), meeting other requirements of the commission, and carrying motor truck cargo carriers insurance of at least $50,000 per truck and $100,000 per catastrophe. Existing law requires any carrier, whether domiciled in or outside of La., who is providing intrastate transportation of household goods in La., to maintain a permanent establishment in this state. Provides that if the carrier ceases to maintain a permanent establishment in the state, its right to conduct business in the state shall be immediately suspended or cancelled at the discretion of the commission. No cancellation shall be ordered by the commission without notice and hearing before an administrative law judge. Prior law provided that the provisions of existing law would apply only when the contract for moving household goods exceeded $400. New law repeals the provision of prior law that required application of existing law only when the contract for moving household goods exceeds $400. Effective August 1, 2021. (Repeals R.S. 45:164(E)(3))
