HOUSE BILL NO. 671

COURTS/COURT COSTS:  Provides relative to fees dedicated to the operational costs of
the office of the coroner in Tensas Parish
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(f), relative to court costs in Tensas Parish; to provide for an
3 additional court fee in criminal matters in all courts in Tensas Parish; to provide
4 relative to the coroner's operational fund; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(f) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง5722.  Coroner's Operational Fund established

12	(f)  Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 13:62, in criminal cases, including
13 traffic violations, in all courts in Tensas Parish, a fee of not more than five dollars
14 may be imposed on every defendant who is convicted after trial or plea of guilty,
15 which fee shall be used solely to defray the operational costs of the office of the
16 coroner of the parish.

Abstract:  Allows Tensas Parish courts to collect a fee of no more than five dollars in
criminal cases to be used solely to defray the costs of the office of the coroner of the
parish.
Present law establishes the Coroner's Operational Fund and a criminal court fee on certain
defendants dedicated to defraying the operational costs of the office of the coroner in the
parish in which the conviction occurred.  Provides for an additional fee in certain parishes
for the support of the coroner.
Proposed law authorizes an additional fee of not more than five dollars on every defendant
who is convicted in all courts in Tensas Parish to be used solely to defray the operational
costs of the coroner's office.
