HLS 21RS-3329 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 104 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES AND SENATOR JACKSON SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates May 25, 2021, as Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar Association Day at the state capitol 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To designate Tuesday, May 25, 2021, as Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar 3 Association Day at the state capitol and to commend the members of the Louisiana 4 Judicial Council of the National Bar Association for their contributions to improving 5 the judicial system in this state. 6 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council is an arm of the National Bar 7Association; and 8 WHEREAS, in order to facilitate the provision of justice in Louisiana, the judges of 9the Louisiana Judicial Council undertake activities for the improvement of law, the legal 10system, and the administration of justice; and 11 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council is committed to a more diverse ethnic 12and cultural balance of elected and nonelected judges throughout the state of Louisiana; and 13 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council is committed to achieving the eradication 14of racial and class bias from the judicial process thereby improving the public's confidence 15in the judicial system; and 16 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar Association aspires 17to be the beacon of light for justice in Louisiana and the world as it works to develop a 18shared sense of justice that respects the dignity of all human beings; and 19 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council fashions effective remedies for 20legitimate grievances of the deprived, the oppressed, and the underrepresented in society; 21and Page 1 of 3 HLS 21RS-3329 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 104 1 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council facilitates and hastens the meaningful 2integration of the judiciary and of each agency of government controlled by or responsible 3to the judiciary; and 4 WHEREAS, the motto of the Louisiana Judicial Council is "Fiat Justitia Ruat 5Coelum" which means "Let Justice Prevail Though the Heavens May Fall"; and 6 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council provides seminars, conferences, and 7forums for the exchange of judicial experiences and for the training and continued education 8of its members; and 9 WHEREAS, the principle values of the Louisiana Judicial Council are justice and 10integrity, which are reflected by the respect, spirituality, selfless service, and personal 11courage of its membership; and 12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar Association consists 13of the following 2020-2022 executive board members: Judge June B. Darensburg, 14chairperson, Judge Lee V. Faulkner, Jr., chairperson-elect, Judge Marc. E. Johnson, 15treasurer, Judge Karelia Stewart, secretary, Judge E. Adrian Adams, 1st Supreme Court 16District, Judge Ree Casey Jones, 2nd Supreme Court District, Judge Ulysses G. Thibodeaux, 17retired, 3rd Supreme Court District, Judge Tammy D. Lee, 4th Supreme Court District, 18Judge Trudy M. White, 5th Supreme Court District, Judge Madeline Jasmine, 6th Supreme 19Court District, Judge Steven Jupiter, 7th Supreme Court District, Judge Rachael D. Johnson, 20at large, Judge Kern A. Alexander, LJC/NBA foundation 22chairperson. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 24recognize Tuesday, May 25, 2021, as Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar 25Association Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend and express enduring 26appreciation and gratitude to the Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar Association 27for its fight for justice and equality within the judicial branch of our government and for its 28contributions to the judiciary as a whole. 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 30chairperson of the Louisiana Judicial Council of the National Bar Association.
