STUDENTS: Requests the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to
develop a plan for providing school literacy coaches for students in kindergarten
through second grade in elementary schools identified as needing improvement
DIGEST
Requests the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to develop a plan
to provide school literacy coaches in all elementary schools identified as needing
improvement no later than the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
Requires BESE to submit the plan to the governor, the legislature, and the La. Early Literacy
Commission not later than December 31, 2021.
Requires BESE to provide a written report regarding implementation, progress, and results
to the governor, the legislature, and the La. Early Literacy Commission at least twice between
Jan, 1, 2022 and Dec. 31, 2025.
Summary of Amendments Adopted by Senate
Committee Amendments Proposed by Senate Committee on Education to the
engrossed bill
1. Removes the commissioner of administration from those whom BESE should
consult with and submit the plan to.
2. Changes the date for submission of the plan from Sept. 30, 2021 to Dec. 31,
2022.
3. Makes technical changes.
