ELECTIONS: Requests the secretary of state to study the implementation of a notification
system to alert a voter regarding the status of his vote
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To urge and request the secretary of state to study the implementation of a notification
3 system to alert a voter regarding the status of his vote.
4 WHEREAS, in 2020, Louisiana saw the highest election turnout in nearly 25 years,
5with 70.1% of registered voters casting a ballot, in approximately 4,000 precincts across the
6state; and
7 WHEREAS, there has been an increase in absentee by mail and early voting within
8the state and throughout the country; and
9 WHEREAS, some voters are demanding an extra layer of security assuring them that
10they have successfully cast their vote; and
11 WHEREAS, the vast majority of states, including Louisiana, allow voters to track
12a mail ballot from the time it is mailed to when it has been successfully counted; however,
13such tracking is not automated; and
14 WHEREAS, automated notifications would provide peace of mind for voters who
15want to ensure their ballot is properly received and their vote is counted; and
16 WHEREAS, such notifications would be beneficial for those who vote by mail as
17well as for those who vote in person during early voting and on election day.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
19urge and request the secretary of state to study the implementation of a notification system
20to alert a voter regarding the status of his vote.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
2secretary of state.
