HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 12

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Dorothy Hester Bell
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Dorothy
3 Hester Bell.
4 WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts that the House of Representatives has learned of
5the death of Dorothy Hester Bell; and
6 WHEREAS, Dorothy was born in Shreveport on December 31, 1926, to Earl
7Randolph and Clover Feazel Hester; she was raised in Arcadia, Louisiana, where her father
8served as principal of Arcadia High School; and
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Bell graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1949 with a
10bachelor of arts in mathematics; while studying at Louisiana Tech, she met and married
11David H. Bell, beginning what would become fifty-seven happy years of marriage; and
12 WHEREAS, Dorothy went on to earn a master of education degree and masters plus
1330 from Northeast Louisiana University; and
14 WHEREAS, Ms. Bell began her teaching career in Arkansas before returning to
15Louisiana in 1954 to teach algebra and geometry to several generations of students at Delhi
16High School; she officially retired from teaching in 1987 but continued to offer her
17assistance and advice to students for many years after her retirement; and
18 WHEREAS, Ms. Bell loved to tend to her yard and flower beds and was a collector
19of antique furniture; she was also involved in various civic groups, including the Delhi
20Garden Club and The Hannah House; and

1 WHEREAS, Ms. Bell was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Rayville,
2Louisiana; however, she also enjoyed many church activities with the Delhi Presbyterian and
3Delhi Methodist churches; and
4 WHEREAS, Ms. Bell is survived by her daughter, Cathey A. Bell; her son, David
5H. Bell; her granddaughters, Jordan Amborn, and her husband Rob, and Caitlin Knighton;
6her great-grandchildren, Louis Amborn, Mary Hannah Amborn, Cole Knighton, Ethan
7Knighton, and Dean Knighton; and nieces, Lynda, Patricia, and Susan Wallace; she will be
8deeply missed by all.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Dorothy
11Hester Bell; does hereby recognize her decades of service to her many students and the
12citizens of Delhi; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that her family, friends,
13loved ones, and former students find comfort during this difficult time.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
15family of Dorothy Hester Bell.
