CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of former Lake Arthur mayor, E.R.
"Red" Giles
1 A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of former Lake
3 Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles.
4 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
5Representatives has learned of the death of former Lake Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles;
6and
7 WHEREAS, Red served as mayor of Lake Arthur from 1991 until 2010 and was a
8longtime familiar face in local politics; and
9 WHEREAS, during Mayor Giles's tenure, Lake Arthur received nearly $7 million
10in federal and state grants; additionally, he oversaw the construction of a new community
11center, the Field of Dreams recreational complex, a multi-million dollar flood control
12project, a heliport, and a new sewer plant; he also secured the extensive repairs of the Lake
13Arthur Town Hall following Hurricane Rita; and
14 WHEREAS, Red is remembered as a extremely generous man who helped his
15community in any way that he could; he and friends formed the "Hot Box Brothers", which
16traveled around Louisiana and Texas with large barbecue pits to cook and raise money for
17various causes; and
18 WHEREAS, Mayor Giles was a truly dedicated public servant committed to the well-
19being of Lake Arthur; he will deeply missed but certainly never forgotten.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of former

1Lake Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles; does hereby recognize Red's unrelenting dedication
2to Lake Arthur and its citizens; and does hereby extend sincere hopes that his family, friends,
3and loved ones find comfort during this difficult time.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
5family of E.R. "Red" Giles.
