HLS 21RS-3467 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 145 BY REPRESENTATIVE COUSSAN COMMENDATIONS: Commends Acadian Ambulance on the occasion of the company's fiftieth anniversary 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend Acadian Ambulance on the occasion of the company's fiftieth anniversary. 3 WHEREAS, founded in 1971, Acadian Companies is an employee-owned, 4multifaceted company with six divisions, a global reach, and a mission of improving the 5lives of patients, customers, and employees through its innovative spirit and dedicated team 6of professionals; and 7 WHEREAS, Acadian is the largest employee-owned ambulance service in the nation 8and has earned a reputation as one of the nation's most respected and accomplished medical 9transportation companies; and 10 WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance Service began operations on September 1, 1971, 11with three co-founders, two ambulances, and eight medics covering two hundred seventy- 12nine square miles of Lafayette Parish; and 13 WHEREAS, since then, Acadian Ambulance has been in continuous operation 14through hurricanes, floods, ice storms, and even a pandemic; and 15 WHEREAS, over the past five decades, Acadian Ambulance's service area has grown 16to include thirty-five parishes in Louisiana, thirty-five counties in Texas, one county in 17Mississippi, and one county in Tennessee; their fleet includes six hundred twenty-eight 18ambulances, twelve helicopters, and five fixed-wing aircraft staffed by two thousand seven 19hundred medics who transport more than six hundred thirty-five thousand patients annually; 20and Page 1 of 3 HLS 21RS-3467 ORIGINAL HR NO. 145 1 WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance is one of the only companies in the nation to be 2accredited by both the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and the 3Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems; and 4 WHEREAS, in the 1980s, Acadian began providing medics to work on oil 5installations in the Gulf of Mexico in the form of Safety Management Systems; in 2003, 6Acadian launched the National EMS Academy, which has a fully accredited partnership with 7South Louisiana Community College and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service 8to educate EMTs and paramedics for agencies across the United States; and 9 WHEREAS, Acadian partnered with the NAACP and local inclusion and diversity 10groups to provide a scholarship program for young men and women interested in a career 11in emergency medical services; and 12 WHEREAS, Acadian Companies has garnered international acclaim and recognition 13as a result of the dedication of its employee-owners; it has been recognized by the American 14Ambulance Association, the United States Senate, Bill Gates, Inc. Magazine, and even the 15Smithsonian Institution; and 16 WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance Service is most deserving of the highest 17recognition for its dedicated service to the people of Louisiana and beyond for the last fifty 18years. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Acadian Ambulance on the occasion of the 21company's fiftieth anniversary; does hereby recognize that immense pride that Acadian has 22brought to the great state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere wishes for their 23continued success over the next fifty years. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 25chief executive officer of Acadian Companies.
