ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 147 BY REPRESENTATIVE MAGEE A RESOLUTION To recognize Tuesday, June 1, 2021, as Louisiana Music Advocacy Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, music and its creators are among Louisiana's greatest natural and renewable resources; and WHEREAS, Louisiana is the birthplace of so many of the world's musical styles, such as jazz, blues, zydeco, swamp pop, rock & roll, gospel, country, bounce, rhythm & blues, and Cajun music; and WHEREAS, Louisiana's musicians, including many Grammy nominees and winners, create an environment conducive to continued innovation in music; and WHEREAS, the music industry in Louisiana is an economic driver which contributes $1.2 billion to the state's GDP and employs over 30,000 Louisiana citizens yet has not been fully recognized as a true industry akin to food, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and others; and WHEREAS, in a state where tourism is one of the largest industries, music is regarded as one of the primary attractions that causes visitors to come to Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Louisiana has numerous postsecondary educational programs devoted to educating future musicians and music industry professionals; and WHEREAS, it is essential that Louisiana recognize the economic importance of Louisiana's music industry and incentivize growth of the industry's support system so as to nurture careers in the music industry. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, June 1, 2021, as Louisiana Music Advocacy Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the state's music creators and music industry professionals for their contributions to this important and growing industry.
