SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical
Services Week
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, in
4partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians, has designated the week
5of May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week, nationally, the theme of which
6is "This is EMS: Caring for Our Communities"; and
7 WHEREAS, emergency medical services are an essential public service and a vital
8facet of healthcare; and
9 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
10lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
11 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
12and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
13 WHEREAS, emergency medical services fill a gap by providing out of hospital care,
14which includes providing preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine;
15and
16 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
17responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,
18paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
19administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
20members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and

1 WHEREAS, members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
2volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
3enhance their lifesaving skills; and
4 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana to recognize the accomplishments of emergency medical service
6providers by recognizing May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week in
7Louisiana.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical
10Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe
11this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
