HLS 21RS-3259 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 155 BY REPRESENTATIVES LANDRY, DUPLESSIS, AND FREEMAN COMMENDATIONS: Commends the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans on the occasion of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans on the occasion of the 3 one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding. 4 WHEREAS, July 9, 2021, marks the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the 5founding of the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans; and 6 WHEREAS, the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans was created by 7the Legislature of Louisiana to administer public wharves and regulate trade and traffic on 8the Mississippi River in the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard; and 9 WHEREAS, today, the Port of New Orleans is a modern, multimodal gateway for 10global commerce and an in-demand cruise port; and 11 WHEREAS, with maritime activity throughout the Port of New Orleans's three- 12parish jurisdiction, the port continues to play an important role as an economic engine, an 13integrated freight gateway, a cruise and tourism driver, and an environmental leader; and 14 WHEREAS, the employees of the Port of New Orleans and New Orleans Public Belt 15Railroad are vital to the port's critical role in driving the economy in the port's jurisdiction, 16the state of Louisiana, and the entire United States; and 17 WHEREAS, the day-to-day work of the port's employees contributes to the common 18goals of creating jobs for Louisiana families and delivering goods throughout the nation; and 19 WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans fosters a strong and ready workforce as a 20connector between residents and industry, and it facilitates access to the economic 21opportunities brought about by the maritime and transportation sectors; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 21RS-3259 ORIGINAL HR NO. 155 1 WHEREAS, Louisiana is an international trade state with one in five jobs statewide 2tied to the maritime industry; and 3 WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans is looking ahead to the next one hundred 4twenty-five years to ensure that the infrastructure is in place that will allow the state of 5Louisiana to efficiently accommodate the maritime industry's largest shipping carriers; and 6 WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans continues to strive to be the global gateway for 7Louisiana and the entire Mississippi River, and for this it is most deserving of recognition. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the board of commissioners of the Port of 10New Orleans on the occasion of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding; 11does hereby recognize its immeasurable value to both Louisiana and the entire United States; 12and does hereby extend sincere hopes for the growth and prosperity of the Port of New 13Orleans for centuries to come. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 15chairman of the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans.
