HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 155
BY REPRESENTATIVES LANDRY, DUPLESSIS, AND FREEMAN
A RESOLUTION
To commend the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans on the occasion of the
one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding.
WHEREAS, July 9, 2021, marks the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the
founding of the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans was created by
the Legislature of Louisiana to administer public wharves and regulate trade and traffic on
the Mississippi River in the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard; and
WHEREAS, today, the Port of New Orleans is a modern, multimodal gateway for
global commerce and an in-demand cruise port; and
WHEREAS, with maritime activity throughout the Port of New Orleans's three-
parish jurisdiction, the port continues to play an important role as an economic engine, an
integrated freight gateway, a cruise and tourism driver, and an environmental leader; and
WHEREAS, the employees of the Port of New Orleans and New Orleans Public Belt
Railroad are vital to the port's critical role in driving the economy in the port's jurisdiction,
the state of Louisiana, and the entire United States; and
WHEREAS, the day-to-day work of the port's employees contributes to the common
goals of creating jobs for Louisiana families and delivering goods throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans fosters a strong and ready workforce as a
connector between residents and industry, and it facilitates access to the economic
opportunities brought about by the maritime and transportation sectors; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is an international trade state with one in five jobs statewide
tied to the maritime industry; and

WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans is looking ahead to the next one hundred
twenty-five years to ensure that the infrastructure is in place that will allow the state of
Louisiana to efficiently accommodate the maritime industry's largest shipping carriers; and
WHEREAS, the Port of New Orleans continues to strive to be the global gateway for
Louisiana and the entire Mississippi River, and for this it is most deserving of recognition.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the board of commissioners of the Port of
New Orleans on the occasion of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding;
does hereby recognize its immeasurable value to both Louisiana and the entire United States;
and does hereby extend sincere hopes for the growth and prosperity of the Port of New
Orleans for centuries to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
chairman of the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans.
