ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 157 BY REPRESENTATIVE DAVIS A RESOLUTION To designate Thursday, June 3, 2021, as Women in Public Office Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, women of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds have made significant contributions to the world and merit celebration; and WHEREAS, women play a critical role in our communities; their presence contributes to the vitality and diversity of such communities and to the state of Louisiana as a whole; and WHEREAS, while the twenty-first century is a pivotal time of growth for women entering politics, women remain underrepresented in the political sphere including elected and appointed positions in government, even as they comprise 55% of registered voters; and WHEREAS, providing opportunities to support women in public office is imperative; and WHEREAS, recognizing women in public office will raise awareness of the fundamental necessity of their contributions and will inspire other women to serve in public office as well. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Thursday, June 3, 2021, as Women in Public Office Day at the state capitol and does hereby call upon the people of Louisiana to celebrate the achievements of women in public office and encourage more women to serve their communities in public office at every level of government across the great state of Louisiana.
