HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 171
BY REPRESENTATIVE FIRMENT
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Jena High School softball team on winning the Louisiana High School
Athletic Association 2021 Class 3A state championship.
WHEREAS, the third-ranked Jena High School Lady Giants softball team defeated
the fourth-ranked Iowa High School softball team, 12-10, at the LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 State
Softball Tournament in Sulphur, Louisiana, to capture the Class 3A state championship; and
WHEREAS, the victory marks Jena High School's first-ever state championship in
softball; and
WHEREAS, Jena High School's Janasia Jones earned the Most Outstanding Player
award after reaching base in all five of her at-bats; she tallied three walks, two home runs,
three RBI, and scored four runs; she finished the weekend with three home runs, six RBI,
four walks, and five runs scored; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Sarah Roark and her staff helped guide the Lady Giants
throughout the season, and their incredible coaching led to an exciting, come-from-behind
championship victory in the final contest of the season; and
WHEREAS, the Jena High School Lady Giants softball team is most deserving of
recognition for their incredible performance this year.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Jena High School softball team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2021 Class 3A state championship
and does hereby extend sincere hopes that the members of the team enjoy similar success
in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
principal of Jena High School.
