COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2019 Division IV state
championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team on winning the Louisiana High
3 School Athletic Association 2019 Division IV state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team captured their fifth-
5consecutive state title with their performance at the 2019 Division IV state swim meet in
6Sulphur; and
7 WHEREAS, the Newman boys' swim program now holds thirteen state titles; and
8 WHEREAS, Newman took home first, second, and third place in the 500 yard
9freestyle event and the 100 yard backstroke event; and
10 WHEREAS, Newman junior Pierce Thionville won both of his individual events and
11broke the oldest school record in the 500 yard freestyle by nearly an entire second with a
12time of 4:35.21; he also won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.09, which missed
13another school record by one hundredth of a second; and
14 WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Thionville's performance, Newman freshman
15Christian Johnson finished as runner-up in both of his events, and Pepijn Kuiper finished as
16runner-up in the 200 yard freestyle; and
17 WHEREAS, the Newman relay teams in the 200 yard medley and the 400 yard
18freestyle both placed first as well; and
19 WHEREAS, the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team is most deserving of
20recognition for their outstanding performance in the LHSAA 2019 state swim meet.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team
3on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2019 Division IV state
4championship; does hereby recognize the team's dominance as they have captured the last
5five state titles; and does hereby extend sincere hopes for the continued success of the team.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7principal of Isidore Newman School.
