HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 188

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Dorothy P. Ledet
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana
3 upon the death of Dorothy P. Ledet.
4 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
5Representatives has learned of the passing, on May 27, 2021, of Dorothy P. "Ms. Dot"
6Ledet; and
7 WHEREAS, Dorothy was born on July 24, 1934, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, and
8was the fourth child born to Calvin Polite and Eunice Chambers Cormier; and
9 WHEREAS, Dorothy married Albert Ledet, Jr., on November 25, 1956, and the two
10enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage; two children were born to their union, Albert "T.A."
11Ledet, III, and Dodie Ledet LaMott; and
12 WHEREAS, Ms. Dot was a longtime employee of the Willis family, working at both
13the family's home and the law offices of Mack Willis; she also coordinated numerous local
14and statewide get out the vote activities for Mr. Willis during his successful campaign for
15the office of mayor of St. Martinville; and
16 WHEREAS, after leaving the Willis's employment, Ms. Dot worked for thirty years
17as a food service worker at St. Martinville Primary School; she always brought smiles to
18every student, faculty, and staff member at the school; and
19 WHEREAS, Ms. Dot also mastered the art of creole cuisine and was well known for
20her gingerbread and meat pies; she always kept the recipe secret and often prepared the treats
21late at night to avoid revealing her mother's secrets; and

2 WHEREAS, Ms. Dot was a longtime and faithful member of Union Baptist Church
3in St. Martinville; she was immensely proud of her status as one of the first members of the
4church to be baptized in the church's baptismal pool; she also served as president of the
5usher board, as head cook for many church events, and as the church's groundskeeper; and
6 WHEREAS, Ms. Dot was also a charter member of the Newcomers Club in St.
7Martinville and served as the club's chair for over twenty years; the club sponsors numerous
8community activities including an annual Christmas ball and toy drive and is regarded as the
9first organization to sponsor Mardi Gras parades in St. Martinville; and
10 WHEREAS, Dorothy's other affiliations included memberships in the Order of
11Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, and the Pokeno Club; she was also the recipient of
12numerous awards for her community involvement, including the Dr. Martin Luther King
13Award, given by Golden Keys Social & Civic Club; the Newcomers Dedicated Service and
14Commitment Award; the Presidential Award for Cooperation to the Men of Distinction
15Social & Civic Club; and many more; and
16 WHEREAS, Ms. Dot leaves to cherish her memory her son, Albert Ledet, III;
17daughter, Dodie Ledet LaMott; sisters, Willie Mae Ambroise, Maxine Cormier, and Janice
18Underwood, and her husband Harold; grandchildren, Ebony LaMott, Bryson Boudreaux,
19Ross Rattliff, Craig LaMott, Jr., and Lashia Duhon; great-grandchildren, Jonah R. LaMott,
20Qunell Duhon, Qunaisha Duhon, Qarie Boudreaux, and Quest Boudreaux; her godchild,
21Becky Isadore; her brother-in-law, Malcolm Ledet; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews,
22and friends; and
23 WHEREAS, Dorothy P. Ledet will be deeply missed but her memory will live on in
24those who knew and loved her.
25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
26Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Dorothy
27P. Ledet; does hereby recognize Ms. Dot's genuine compassion for her community; and does
28hereby extend sincere hopes that her family, friends, and loved ones find comfort during this
29difficult time.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
2family of Dorothy P. Ledet.
