HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 220

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Judah Hertz and posthumously
commends his contributions to the city of Shreveport, Louisiana
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Judah Hertz
3 and posthumously commend him for his contributions to the city of Shreveport,
4 Louisiana.
5 WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
6Representatives has learned of the death of Judah Hertz; and
7 WHEREAS, Judah Hertz was a real estate investor based in Santa Monica,
8California; he founded the Hertz Investment Group in 1977, buying undervalued properties
9in New York City's SoHo neighborhood; at the time of his passing, the firm owned and
10managed seventy-two high-rise properties in twenty-four cities across the United States; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Hertz was very involved in the state of Louisiana; he acquired
12several buildings in the New Orleans Central Business District in 2002; in 2015, he invested
13in the New Orleans real estate market once more by purchasing One Shell Square; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Hertz was also an incredibly generous individual; he held an annual
15fundraiser for the Ahmanson/UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center at UCLA, and
16served on the World Chairman's Council of the Jewish National Fund; and
17 WHEREAS, in Shreveport, Mr. Hertz donated more than $700,000 to Project Swim,
18which provided over sixteen thousand Shreveport-area children with free comprehensive
19basic water safety and swimming lessons; he helped fund the project as a way to help heal
20the city's pain following the tragic drowning of six local children; and

1 WHEREAS, Judah Hertz is survived by his wife, Astrid; his son, Zev; and a host of
2extended family members and friends; he was a successful businessman with a genuine
3concern for others; the memory of his inspiring legacy will live on forever, and his
4contributions to the city of Shreveport will serve as a reminder of his charitable nature.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences upon the death of Judah
7Hertz and posthumously commends him for his contributions to the city of Shreveport,
8Louisiana, and does hereby extend sincere hopes that his family find comfort during this
9extremely difficult time.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11family of Judah Hertz.
