COMMENDATIONS: Commends Water Wise Gulf South and its founding member
Hilairie Schackai
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Water Wise Gulf South and its founding member Hilairie Schackai.
3 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South is an environmental awareness organization that
4was founded in New Orleans in 2018; its mission is to collaborate with community-based
5organizations to advance green infrastructure; together, the organizations work to raise
6awareness of environmental issues facing the Gulf South region of the United States; and
7 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South has grown a network of community advocates,
8which they refer to as the "Water Wise Neighborhood Champions"; today, there are one
9hundred twenty Water Wise Neighborhood Champions; and
10 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South installs green infrastructure projects at the
11homes of the Water Wise Neighborhood Champions, at small businesses, churches,
12community centers, on vacant lots, and in public rights-of-way; and
13 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South currently serves the New Orleans area, but the
14organization is working towards serving the entire Gulf South region; and
15 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South currently manages one hundred fifty green
16infrastructure projects and stores up to fifty-five thousand gallons of rainwater per weather
17event; and
18 WHEREAS, Hilairie Schackai is one of the founding members of Water Wise Gulf
19South; and

1 WHEREAS, Water Wise Gulf South and its founding member Hilairie Schackai are
2most deserving of recognition for their efforts to help create environmentally-friendly
3infrastructure in New Orleans and, eventually, across the Gulf South region.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Water Wise Gulf South and its founding
6member Hilairie Schackai; does hereby recognize their efforts to help preserve the Gulf
7South ecosystem; and does hereby extend sincere hopes that Water Wise Gulf South enjoy
8success in its mission to raise awareness on the importance of green infrastructure.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
10executive director of Water Wise Gulf South.
