HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 40
BY REPRESENTATIVE DUPLESSIS
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Healthy Community Services and its founder and
executive director, Angela M. Chalk
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Healthy Community Services and its founder and executive director, Angela
3 M. Chalk.
4 WHEREAS, Healthy Community Services was established by Angela M. Chalk in
52018; the organization is committed to educating vulnerable communities by providing
6individuals with the knowledge to make informed decisions concerning resilient, sustainable
7lifestyles and nutritional needs and by creating access to healthy food choices; and
8 WHEREAS, Healthy Community Services serves the 7th Ward in New Orleans and
9other areas in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines parishes; and
10 WHEREAS, Healthy Community Services also helps educate communities on
11leading healthy lifestyles that are inclusive of safe homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods;
12it also promotes the incorporation of sustainable green infrastructure alternatives into
13everyday living; and
14 WHEREAS, Healthy Community Services partners with Water Wise Gulf South in
15the Water Wise 7th Ward Initiative; today, Healthy Community Services is responsible for
16forty green infrastructure interventions and stores up to 13,207 gallons of storm water per
17weather event; and
18 WHEREAS, Angela M. Chalk is the founder and executive director of Healthy
19Community Services; she has served as a key point of contact for the majority of Water Wise
20Gulf South's activities in the 7th Ward; she is a lifelong resident of the 7th Ward and former
21vice president of the 7th Ward Neighborhood Association; she is an instrumental figure in

1the advancement of green infrastructure in her neighborhood and built a demonstration rain
2garden on her property to enable her neighbors to witness green infrastructure in action; and

4 WHEREAS, Healthy Community Services and its founder, Angela M. Chalk, are
5most deserving of recognition for their integrity and commitment to educating underserved
6areas on the importance of healthy and environmentally sustainable lifestyles and for
7providing these communities with the resources to achieve these goals.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Healthy Community Services and its
10founder and executive director, Angela M. Chalk; does hereby recognize Ms. Chalk's
11admirable efforts to promote green infrastructure in her community; and does hereby extend
12sincere hopes that both the organization and its founder continue to enjoy success in their
13mission to assist vulnerable communities in New Orleans and surrounding parishes.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
15Angela M. Chalk.
