HEALTH DEPARTMENT.  Provides relative to continuing education requirements imposed
by the Louisiana Board of Hearing Aid Dealers. (1/1/22)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 37:2446.1(A) and (C), relative to continuing education
3 requirements imposed by the Louisiana Board for Hearing Aid Dealers; to reduce the
4 number of required continuing education hours for reinstatement or renewal of a
5 license; to reduce the maximum number of continuing education hours that may be
6 obtained through the internet; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for
7 related matters.
8 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 37:2446.1(A) and (C) are hereby amended and reenacted to read as
10 follows: 
11 ยง2446.1. Continuing education requirement
12	A. The board shall require all licensees applying for reinstatement or renewal
13 of licenses to have completed fifteen twelve hours of continuing education per year
14 in courses approved by the board, which may consist of a maximum of seven four
15 hours obtained through internet or correspondence courses, in order to renew their
16 license on January first of the following year. Each licensee shall submit
17 documentation from any recognized professional or educational institution to the

1 board as proof that each licensee has been exposed to new developments in the
2 practice which have occurred since the prior issuance or renewal of such license.

4	C. Any person receiving a license by endorsement or examination on July
5 first or later in that year shall not be required to have the fifteen twelve hours of
6 continuing education until December thirty-first of the following year. 
7 Section 2. This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2022.

Present law requires individuals licensed by the La. Board of Hearing Aid Dealers to
complete 15 hours of continuing education to reinstate or renew their license. Proposed law
reduces the number of required continuing education hours from 15 to 12.
Present law allows a maximum of seven continuing education hours to be earned through
the internet or correspondence courses. Proposed law reduces the maximum number of hours
from seven to four.
Effective January 1, 2022.
