ELECTION DAYS. Calls a special statewide election for submitting proposed constitutional
amendments to the state's electors. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To provide for a special statewide election to be held on October 9, 2021, for the sole
3 purpose of submitting proposed constitutional amendments to the electors of the
4 state; to provide for the conduct of the election; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  A special statewide election shall be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021,
7 for the sole purpose of submitting to the electors of the state proposed constitutional
8 amendments as contained in joint resolutions concurred in by each house of the legislature
9 during the 2021 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.
10 Section 2. The election for which the provision is made in this Act shall be held in
11 compliance with and subject to the applicable provisions of the Louisiana Election Code.
12 Section 3. This Act shall be void if no proposed constitutional amendment as
13 contained in a joint resolution is concurred in by each house of the legislature during the
14 2021 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature that specifies the special statewide
15 election provided in this Act as the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional
16 amendment shall be submitted to the electors.
17 Section 4.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not

1 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
2 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
3 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
4 effective on the day following such approval.

Present constitution requires that each joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment
specify the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be
submitted to the state's electors for ratification. Provides that special elections for submitting
proposed constitutional amendments may be authorized by law.
Proposed law provides that a special statewide election shall be held on Sat., Oct. 9, 2021,
for the sole purpose of submitting to the state's electors proposed constitutional amendments
contained in joint resolutions concurred in during the 2021 R.S. Provides that proposed law
shall be void if no proposed constitutional amendment is concurred in during the 2021 R.S.
that specifies the special statewide election on Oct. 9, 2021, as the statewide election at
which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the electors.
Proposed law provides that the election shall be held in compliance with applicable
provisions of the Louisiana Election Code. 
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
