Present constitution requires that each joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment specify
the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the
state's electors for ratification. Provides that special elections for submitting proposed constitutional
amendments may be authorized by law.
Proposed law provides that a special statewide election shall be held on Sat., Oct. 9, 2021, for the
sole purpose of submitting to the state's electors proposed constitutional amendments contained in
joint resolutions concurred in during the 2021 R.S. Provides that proposed law shall be void if no
proposed constitutional amendment is concurred in during the 2021 R.S. that specifies the special
statewide election on Oct. 9, 2021, as the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional
amendment shall be submitted to the electors.
Proposed law provides that the election shall be held in compliance with applicable provisions of
the Louisiana Election Code. 
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
