Expresses condolences upon the death of Richard Don Clements Jr. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Mr. 3 Richard Don Clements Jr. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the unexpected passing of Mr. Richard Don 6 Clements Jr. on February 2, 2021, at the age of fifty-five; and 7 WHEREAS, he was born on June 12, 1965, to parents Richard Don Clements Sr. and 8 Carolyn Joy Templeton Clements; and 9 WHEREAS, he graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of 10 Science in Accounting; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements began his career as a trader in the energy business and 12 later was a certified public accountant for a public accounting firm; and 13 WHEREAS, because he was passionate about helping people financially prepare to 14 live their best life possible, he became a certified financial planner in 2002; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements was a partner in the Global Asset Management Group in 16 Lake Charles and held the prestigious Certified Financial Planner certificate and many 17 advanced designations in the field of retirement income planning and retirement plans; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements married the love of his life, Nancy Shaddock, at First Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 12 SLS 21RS-111 ORIGINAL 1 United Methodist Church in Lake Charles and from that union his two children, Will and 2 Mary Kathryn, were born; and 3 WHEREAS, he was a talented guitarist and a treasured member of the worship team 4 at First United Methodist Church, where he and his family were devoted members; and 5 WHEREAS, in addition to his work and sharing his musical talents, he loved to 6 travel, hike, fish, hunt, and in 2012, he completed his lifetime goal of traveling to Africa and 7 climbing Mount Kilimanjaro; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements was a lifetime member of the Louisiana Coastal 9 Conservation Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of 10 Louisiana's marine resources, and chaired, alongside his wife, the Big Lake Invitational 11 Fishing Tournament for many years; and 12 WHEREAS, as a proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he beamed with 13 pride when his son, Will, became an Eagle Scout, the highest attainable rank in the 14 organization; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements was a member of the Krewe of Contraband and was so 16 proud to present his daughter, Mary Kathryn, as the Princess "Music of Lincoln Center" in 17 2016; and 18 WHEREAS, when he was not hunting, fishing, or playing music, he was at home 19 tending to his beautiful rose garden and vegetable garden, which he lovingly nurtured in 20 order to bring fresh roses and vegetables to his beloved wife; and 21 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his father, Richard Don Clements Sr.; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Clements is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, 23 Nancy Edith Shaddock Clements; their two children, Mary Kathryn Clements and William 24 Don Clements; his mother, Carolyn Joy Templeton Clements; and his brother, Kirk Alan 25 Clements; and 26 WHEREAS, although the death of Richard Don Clements Jr. has left a tremendous 27 void in his family and community, his memory shall forever remain in the minds and hearts 28 of all who knew and loved him. 29 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 30 respectfully acknowledge with gratitude the outstanding service and numerous Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 12 SLS 21RS-111 ORIGINAL 1 accomplishments of Richard Don Clements Jr. and extends sincere regrets and condolences 2 to his family on the occasion of his death. 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 4 wife, Mrs. Nancy Edith Shaddock Clements.
