SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 41

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Commends the Louisiana Assembly of the Association
of Surgical Technologists and recognizes September 19-25, 2021, as National Surgical
Technologists Week.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To recognize September 19-25, 2021, as National Surgical Technologists Week and to
3 commend the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists for
4 their outstanding skill in maintaining hospital surgery safety in Louisiana, ensuring
5 that surgical teams adhere to aseptic and sterile techniques, and for training other
6 hospital health care providers in patient care sterilization procedures during the
7 COVID-19 pandemic.
8 WHEREAS, the Association of Surgical Technologists is a national nonprofit
9 organization that represents the interests of more than seventy thousand surgical
10 technologists who hold the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential; and
11 WHEREAS, surgical technologists serve as the surgeon's copilot and provide
12 surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon during a surgery; and
13 WHEREAS, surgical technologists have the primary responsibility for maintaining
14 a sterile surgical field and ensuring the surgical team adheres to aseptic and sterile
15 techniques; and
16 WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, surgical technologists were utilized
17 to train other hospital health care providers in patient care sterilization procedures; and
18 WHEREAS, surgical technologists are instrumental in the successful recovery of

1 Louisiana citizens who must undergo lifesaving surgical procedures.
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
3 recognize September 19-25, 2021, as National Surgical Technologists Week and to
4 commend the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists for their
5 outstanding skill in maintaining hospital surgery safety in Louisiana, ensuring that surgical
6 teams adhere to aseptic and sterile techniques, and for training other hospital health care
7 providers in patient care sterilization procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
9 president of the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists.
