SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 41

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To recognize September 19-25, 2021, as National Surgical Technologists Week and to
commend the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists for
their outstanding skill in maintaining hospital surgery safety in Louisiana, ensuring
that surgical teams adhere to aseptic and sterile techniques, and for training other
hospital health care providers in patient care sterilization procedures during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
WHEREAS, the Association of Surgical Technologists is a national nonprofit
organization that represents the interests of more than seventy thousand surgical
technologists who hold the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential; and
WHEREAS, surgical technologists serve as the surgeon's copilot and provide
surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon during a surgery; and
WHEREAS, surgical technologists have the primary responsibility for maintaining
a sterile surgical field and ensuring the surgical team adheres to aseptic and sterile
techniques; and
WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, surgical technologists were utilized
to train other hospital health care providers in patient care sterilization procedures; and
WHEREAS, surgical technologists are instrumental in the successful recovery of
Louisiana citizens who must undergo lifesaving surgical procedures.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize September 19-25, 2021, as National Surgical Technologists Week and to
commend the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists for their
outstanding skill in maintaining hospital surgery safety in Louisiana, ensuring that surgical
teams adhere to aseptic and sterile techniques, and for training other hospital health care
providers in patient care sterilization procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the Louisiana Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists.
