SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 46
BY SENATOR BOUDREAUX 
CONGRESS.  Memorializes Congress to rename the Lafayette VA Clinic in honor of
Rodney C. Hamilton Sr.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To memorialize the Louisiana congressional delegation and the United States Congress to
3 take such actions as are necessary to rename the United States Department of
4 Veterans Affairs' Lafayette Community Based Outpatient Clinic in honor of Rodney
5 C. Hamilton Sr.
6 WHEREAS, Rodney Carroll Hamilton Sr. was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on
7 March 24, 1932, and his family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, in the summer of 1948; and
8 WHEREAS, God, family, country, and community were his strong interests; and
9 WHEREAS, in 1949, he joined the Marine Reserve at age seventeen while attending
10 Lafayette High School at the urging of his football coach, Lou Campbell; and
11 WHEREAS, Rodney served our country during the Korean War, was wounded in
12 combat in September 1951, and was awarded the Purple Heart; and
13 WHEREAS, he loved the United States Marine Corps and was proud of all Marines
14 who served their country; and
15 WHEREAS, his military involvement included being a member of the Marine Corps
16 League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Veteran's Action Coalition of
17 Southwest Louisiana where he served as Founder and Chairman Emeritus; and
18 WHEREAS, he served as a full-time elected official in the Lafayette city government

1 from 1968 through 1972 as a Trustee of Public Property; and
2 WHEREAS, Rodney made numerous contributions to help make Lafayette a better
3 place including leading efforts to secure and build the United States Department of Veterans
4 Affairs' Lafayette Community Based Outpatient Clinic, which opened in 2016; and
5 WHEREAS, due to Rodney's dedication in realizing the veterans clinic in Lafayette,
6 the street there was named in his honor and now bears signs saying, "Veterans Way,
7 Honorary Rodney Hamilton"; and
8 WHEREAS, Rodney Carroll Hamilton Sr. passed away at the age of eighty-eight on
9 November 30, 2020.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby
11 memorializes the Louisiana congressional delegation and the United States Congress to take
12 such actions as are necessary to rename the United States Department of Veterans Affairs'
13 Lafayette Community Based Outpatient Clinic in honor of Rodney C. Hamilton Sr.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted
15 to the secretary of the United States Senate, the clerk of the United States House of
16 Representatives, and to each member of the Louisiana delegation to the United States
17 Congress.
