SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 48
BY SENATOR JOHNS AND REPRESENTATI VE FARNUM 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Tommy Little for his volunteer work and for being
named a 2021 Champion of Service by Volunteer Louisiana.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Tommy Little for his volunteer work and for being named a 2021 Champion
3 of Service by Volunteer Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, the Champion of Service Award is given to any person, group, or
5 business that has made an outstanding contribution to their community and has demonstrated
6 compassion, dedication, leadership, initiative, innovation, and creativity in addressing
7 community challenges and serving others; and
8 WHEREAS, on May 3, 2021, Mr. Tommy Little was presented the 2021 Champion
9 of Service Award for his service to the southwest region of the state and for his ability to
10 serve the residents of the region with strong leadership to successfully address the challenges
11 brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricanes Laura and Delta; and
12 WHEREAS, since 1968, Mr. Little has resided in Sulphur and has engaged in a wide
13 variety of service activities benefitting the residents of southwest Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Little began his service to the community by helping residents who
15 experienced flooding after Hurricane Harvey and has continued to serve the residents of the
16 region ever since; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Little can be found working behind the scenes at most major
18 Sulphur festivals, including the Christmas Under the Oaks Festival and the Stars and Stripes

1 in the Park Classic Car Show, but his main focus is engaging with Sulphur's senior citizens;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, when COVID-19 affected programs for seniors like Food for Seniors
4 and bingo, he went above and beyond to ensure those senior programs were able to safely
5 continue; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Little made it his priority to ensure the Food for Seniors program
7 had all of the extra sanitation products and personal protective equipment it needed to safely
8 provide food to seniors through the newly created drive-thru program; and 
9 WHEREAS, when the weekly bingo games for seniors could no longer be safely
10 played inside, he worked with city officials to create Parking Lot Bingo, a program where
11 seniors could play bingo without leaving their vehicles; and
12 WHEREAS, after hurricanes Laura and Delta, Mr. Little organized volunteers to
13 conduct check-ins on residents affected by the storms, and when it was safe, he began
14 helping residents repair their homes and navigate the recovery process; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Little played a critical and vital role in the post-hurricane days by
16 connecting needs with resources; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Tommy Little has selflessly dedicated his time and service to his
18 community and deserves recognition for being named a 2021 Champion of Service by
19 Volunteer Louisiana.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
21 commend Tommy Little for all of his service and volunteer work in his community and for
22 receiving the Volunteer Louisiana 2021 Champion of Service Award for the southwest
23 region.
24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
25 Mr. Tommy Little.
