SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 53

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the city of Minden for its outstanding fundraising efforts
for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for raising more money per capita for St. Jude
than any other city in the United States.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend the city of Minden, Louisiana, for its outstanding fundraising efforts for St.
3 Jude Children's Research Hospital and for raising more money per capita for St. Jude
4 than any other city in the United States.
5 WHEREAS, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has continuously been one of the
6 world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other
7 catastrophic childhood diseases since its founding by the late entertainer Danny Thomas in
8 1962; and
9 WHEREAS, St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as
10 a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute; and
11 WHEREAS, children from all fifty states and from around the world have come
12 through the doors of St. Jude for treatment; and
13 WHEREAS, thousands more children around the world have benefitted from the
14 research conducted at St. Jude that the hospital shares freely with the global medical
15 community; and
16 WHEREAS, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families
17 never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance; and
18 WHEREAS, despite the pandemic and some significant hurdles in 2020 and 2021,

1 the city of Minden and surrounding communities raised $1,655,349.00 during the 2021
2 Auction for the Kids to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, thereby raising
3 more money per capita for St. Jude than any other city in the United States.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
5 commend the city of Minden, Louisiana, for its outstanding fundraising efforts for St. Jude
6 Children's Research Hospital and for raising more money per capita for St. Jude than any
7 other city in the United States.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
9 city of Minden through its mayor, Terry Gardner.
