2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 53 BY SENATOR ROBERT MILLS A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the city of Minden, Louisiana, for its outstanding fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for raising more money per capita for St. Jude than any other city in the United States. WHEREAS, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has continuously been one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases since its founding by the late entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962; and WHEREAS, St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute; and WHEREAS, children from all fifty states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment; and WHEREAS, thousands more children around the world have benefitted from the research conducted at St. Jude that the hospital shares freely with the global medical community; and WHEREAS, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance; and WHEREAS, despite the pandemic and some significant hurdles in 2020 and 2021, the city of Minden and surrounding communities raised $1,655,349.00 during the 2021 Auction for the Kids to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, thereby raising more money per capita for St. Jude than any other city in the United States. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 53 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the city of Minden, Louisiana, for its outstanding fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for raising more money per capita for St. Jude than any other city in the United States.
