SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Louisiana Recyclers Association, Inc. and the
Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, and their members, for their efforts during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Recyclers Association, Inc. and the Institute of Scrap Recycling
3 Industries, and their members, for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
4 WHEREAS, the manufacturing industry in Louisiana is a leader in the production
5 of countless items used by people around the world and a steady, reliable supply of raw
6 materials is vital to industry operations; and
7 WHEREAS, Louisiana companies manufacture a wide range of products, including
8 steel, aluminum, plastics, textiles, glass, paper, and electronics; such businesses count on the
9 availability of materials that are collected, processed, and manufactured by the state's
10 recycling industry, whose members benefit from the expertise of the Louisiana Recyclers
11 Association, Inc. and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries; and
12 WHEREAS, the steel industry relies on ferrous scrap as its largest single raw
13 material input, and seventy percent of all steel and stainless steel in the country is made from
14 scrap supplied by recyclers; copper and copper alloy production is also heavily dependent
15 on scrap as a raw material; as international supply chains have been disrupted by the
16 COVID-19 pandemic, recycling companies have played an especially critical role,
17 collecting, sorting, and reclaiming materials used for everything from disposable hospital
18 gowns to electronics to packaging for food, hospital equipment, and pharmaceuticals; in

1 addition, salvaged auto parts help vehicle owners economize on repairs and maintain reliable
2 transportation; while producing valuable materials, recycling companies divert a host of
3 items from landfills; and
4 WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the recycling industry has adopted
5 measures to protect the health of employees and customers alike; recycling industry workers
6 have helped to sustain the manufacturing sector through a time of upheaval, and these efforts
7 have been supported by the ongoing endeavors of industry associations; and
8 WHEREAS, the vitality of the state's manufacturing sector is a matter of tremendous
9 importance, and the contributions of the recycling industry will remain crucial throughout
10 the pandemic and in the years to come.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 hereby commends the Louisiana Recyclers Association, Inc. and the Institute of Scrap
13 Recycling Industries, and their members, for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic
14 and hereby extends sincere best wishes for the future.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
16 Louisiana Recyclers Association, Inc. and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
