SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 128
BY SENATORS MORRIS, CATHEY AND JACKSON
COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Monroe Chamber of Commerce on its 100
th
anniversary.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Monroe Chamber of Commerce on the celebration of its
3 one hundredth anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce was established in 1921 as a
5 business trade association to serve the needs of the growing number of businesses in
6 Ouachita Parish; and
7 WHEREAS, over the past one hundred years, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce
8 has played a vital role as an advocate to ensure that businesses prosper and grow; and
9 WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce played a critical role in the
10 establishment of major institutions, including the Ouachita Parish Junior College, later
11 renamed the Northeast Junior College of Louisiana State University, which is now the
12 University of Louisiana Monroe, and the Louisiana Delta Community College; and
13 WHEREAS, over the past century, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has been a
14 regional leader in workforce development and in connecting employers with training
15 providers and area students to ensure that residents have access to good jobs; and
16 WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has worked aside the city of
17 Monroe and the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to ensure that important infrastructure projects
18 are identified, funded, and built, including the Monroe Regional Airport, the North 18th

1 Street Extension, the Forsythe Extension, the Kansas Lane Extension, and the Greater
2 Ouachita Parish Port; and
3 WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has worked to grow the economy
4 of the city of Monroe and Ouachita Parish by fostering business expansion and retention; and
5 WHEREAS, several global businesses have begun in the city of Monroe, including
6 Lumen Technologies Inc., formerly CenturyLink, and Delta Air Lines, Inc.; and
7 WHEREAS, Coca-Cola was first bottled in the city of Monroe; and
8 WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce works continuously to foster the
9 spirit of entrepreneurship and economic growth in the city of Monroe and Ouachita Parish.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby commend and congratulate the Monroe Chamber of Commerce on the
12 celebration of its one hundredth anniversary.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
14 Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
