2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 180 BY SENATOR PRICE A RESOLUTION To commend Shirley Grimes on her retirement from the Ascension Parish School Board. WHEREAS, Shirley Grimes is retiring on June 8, 2021, after thirty-one years of outstanding and dedicated service to the Ascension Parish School Board; and WHEREAS, Shirley Grimes began her career with the school system on November 12, 1990, as a speech therapist at Gonzales Middle School, and she quickly became associated with the Sunshine Bridge crossing over the city of Donaldsonville, where she worked as a speech therapist at Lowery Middle School for nine years; and WHEREAS, her dedication and commitment to the education of students and their families enabled her to share in their successes, both great and small; and WHEREAS, in 1998, Shirley Grimes became an Individualized Education Program (IEP) facilitator with the Ascension Parish Pupil Appraisal Department at LeBlanc Special Services School; and WHEREAS, as an IEP facilitator, Shirley Grimes both developed and monitored implementation of plans to ensure that the school district complied with guidelines in rendering services to students and in maintaining student goals and objectives; and WHEREAS, Shirley Grimes' spirit of devotion to education will forever be remembered throughout the Ascension Parish School Board central office and special services, and by administrators, staff, students, parents, and grandparents. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Shirley Grimes on her many accomplishments and does hereby extend heartfelt wishes for a long and happy retirement.
