Expresses sincere condolences upon the death of Martha Delia Battaglio. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Martha Delia Battaglio. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Martha Delia Battaglio 6 on June 3, 2021, at the age of sixty-nine; and 7 WHEREAS, a native and longtime resident of Baldwin, Martha Delia Boudreaux 8 Battaglio was born on April 19, 1952, and was affectionately known as "D" to her family 9 and friends; and 10 WHEREAS, she was salutatorian and a graduate of Franklin High School, where she 11 was homecoming queen with her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Randy Battaglio, 12 captain of the football team; and 13 WHEREAS, upon graduation from high school, D attended McNeese State 14 University, majoring in Accounting and graduating summa cum laude in just three years; and 15 WHEREAS, initially she chose a career in accounting, working in the chemical 16 industry in Lake Charles but politely declined a blossoming management career to devote 17 herself to her real passion – her husband and children; and 18 WHEREAS, throughout her life, she was devoted to the Catholic schools that her Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 199 SLS 21RS-3515 ORIGINAL 1 children attended – St. John Elementary School and Hanson Memorial High School – and 2 church parishes in both Baldwin (Sacred Heart) and Franklin (Church of the Assumption) 3 and during this period of her life, she served on the school boards for both St. John and 4 Hanson; and 5 WHEREAS, she was also dedicated to volunteering at the Adoration Chapel at St. 6 John for many years; and 7 WHEREAS, D was a frequent traveler, visiting Europe with family and friends; an 8 avid reader; and known for her acerbic wit – all attributes she passed on to her children and 9 grandchildren; and 10 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, B. Edward Boudreaux and 11 Martha Chapron Boudreaux, and her brother, Joseph Chapron Boudreaux; and 12 WHEREAS, those she leaves to cherish her memory include her devoted husband 13 of forty-nine years, Randy Battaglio; son, Paul Battaglio, husband of Leah Battaglio; two 14 daughters, Marti Battaglio, wife of Derek Pourciau, and Erin Biddick, wife of Jeremy 15 Biddick; son, Joey Battaglio; grandchildren, Bella Biddick, Luca Battaglio, Liam Biddick, 16 Madden Pourciau, Sawyer Pourciau, and Lola Battaglio; two brothers, Bernard E. Boudreaux 17 Jr., husband of Dr. Sally Clausen Boudreaux, and Philip H. Boudreaux, husband of Robyn 18 Haydel Boudreaux; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends; and 19 WHEREAS, D demonstrated a record of service, sacrifice, and excellence to her 20 family as a devoted wife, mother, and daughter to her mother who lived to one hundred years 21 of age, along with her extended family, which was of the utmost importance in D's life; and 22 WHEREAS, throughout her life Martha Delia Battaglio remained humble, kind, 23 generous, and spiritually grounded, which was a major part of her success, as well as the 24 success and happiness of all those who were honored to have known her; and 25 WHEREAS, because of her numerous accomplishments, D's passing has left a void 26 in her community and in her state and has created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in her 27 friends and family; and 28 WHEREAS, the success of our state, the strength of our communities, and the overall 29 vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon women like Martha Delia "D" 30 Battaglio. Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 199 SLS 21RS-3515 ORIGINAL 1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 2 acknowledges with gratitude the outstanding service and many accomplishments of Martha 3 Delia "D" Battaglio and extends sincere condolences to her family on the occasion of her 4 passing. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to her 6 husband, Randy Battaglio.
