2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 199 BY SENATOR ALLAIN A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Martha Delia Battaglio. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Martha Delia Battaglio on June 3, 2021, at the age of sixty-nine; and WHEREAS, a native and longtime resident of Baldwin, Martha Delia Boudreaux Battaglio was born on April 19, 1952, and was affectionately known as "D" to her family and friends; and WHEREAS, she was salutatorian and a graduate of Franklin High School, where she was homecoming queen with her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Randy Battaglio, captain of the football team; and WHEREAS, upon graduation from high school, D attended McNeese State University, majoring in Accounting and graduating summa cum laude in just three years; and WHEREAS, initially she chose a career in accounting, working in the chemical industry in Lake Charles but politely declined a blossoming management career to devote herself to her real passion – her husband and children; and WHEREAS, throughout her life, she was devoted to the Catholic schools that her children attended – St. John Elementary School and Hanson Memorial High School – and church parishes in both Baldwin (Sacred Heart) and Franklin (Church of the Assumption) and during this period of her life, she served on the school boards for both St. John and Hanson; and WHEREAS, she was also dedicated to volunteering at the Adoration Chapel at St. John for many years; and WHEREAS, D was a frequent traveler, visiting Europe with family and friends; an avid reader; and known for her acerbic wit – all attributes she passed on to her children and grandchildren; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 199 ENROLLED WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, B. Edward Boudreaux and Martha Chapron Boudreaux, and her brother, Joseph Chapron Boudreaux; and WHEREAS, those she leaves to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of forty-nine years, Randy Battaglio; son, Paul Battaglio, husband of Leah Battaglio; two daughters, Marti Battaglio, wife of Derek Pourciau, and Erin Biddick, wife of Jeremy Biddick; son, Joey Battaglio; grandchildren, Bella Biddick, Luca Battaglio, Liam Biddick, Madden Pourciau, Sawyer Pourciau, and Lola Battaglio; two brothers, Bernard E. Boudreaux Jr., husband of Dr. Sally Clausen Boudreaux, and Philip H. Boudreaux, husband of Robyn Haydel Boudreaux; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends; and WHEREAS, D demonstrated a record of service, sacrifice, and excellence to her family as a devoted wife, mother, and daughter to her mother who lived to one hundred years of age, along with her extended family, which was of the utmost importance in D's life; and WHEREAS, throughout her life Martha Delia Battaglio remained humble, kind, generous, and spiritually grounded, which was a major part of her success, as well as the success and happiness of all those who were honored to have known her; and WHEREAS, because of her numerous accomplishments, D's passing has left a void in her community and in her state and has created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in her friends and family; and WHEREAS, the success of our state, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon women like Martha Delia "D" Battaglio. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana acknowledges with gratitude the outstanding service and many accomplishments of Martha Delia "D" Battaglio and extends sincere condolences to her family on the occasion of her passing.
