Recognizes April 28, 2021, as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition of workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To recognize Wednesday, April 28, 2021, as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition of 3 workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job. 4 WHEREAS, April 28th was declared Workers' Memorial Day more than thirty years 5 ago when the Occupational Safety and Health Act went into effect promising every worker 6 the right to a safe job; and 7 WHEREAS, Louisiana recognizes her citizens as her most valuable resource, and 8 Louisiana workers have been recognized as some of the most productive workers in 9 America; and 10 WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the inextricable link between 11 workplace safety and health and our communities; and 12 WHEREAS, employment unions and other allies continue to demand and win job 13 protections from this highly contagious virus by demanding access to ventilation, respirators, 14 and other measures that protect workers from contracting the virus at work; and 15 WHEREAS, every year, thousands of American workers die as the result of 16 workplace injuries and occupational diseases, and millions of workers are injured, 17 permanently disabled, or made ill on the jobs; and 18 WHEREAS, concerned Americans are determined to decrease such tragedies, in part, Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 21 SLS 21RS-692 ORIGINAL 1 by observing Workers' Memorial Day on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, as a day to remember 2 these victims of workplace injuries and occupational diseases, to renew efforts to seek 3 stronger safety and health protections, better standards and enforcement, and fair and just 4 compensation, and to rededicate themselves to improving safety and health in every 5 American workplace. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 7 does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 28, 2021, as Workers' Memorial Day in 8 recognition of workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job. 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 10 president of the Louisiana American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial 11 Organizations (AFL-CIO).
