SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 214

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department for winning
the 2021 Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge.
WHEREAS, the Baton Rouge Fire Department was started in 1825 under the name
Baton Rouge Bucket Company; and
WHEREAS, Baton Rouge Fire Department was the first fire department in the nation
to achieve a Class 1 rating and the only fire department to have this rating for over forty
years; and
WHEREAS, the Baton Rouge Fire Department participated in the Pensacola Beach
Firefighters Challenge on April 23rd through April 24th; and
WHEREAS, the Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge is the toughest firefighter
competition in the United States and teams from all over the region are tested for firefighter
skills, strength, stamina, and agility; and
WHEREAS, in the challenge, firefighters compete for the best times, in the sand, in
several obstacles including forced entry, charged hose pull, kaiser sled, dummy drag, and
hose hoist; and
WHEREAS, during the challenge individuals compete while in full gear including
boots, gloves, air packs, helmets, and mask; and
WHEREAS, Shane Hernandez, Caleb Dixon, Haiden Goodwin, Jake Morgan,
Hayden Bell, and Miles Greenblatt with the Baton Rouge Fire Department placed first in
2021 Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge team competition with a time of 1:05:02, a
new course record; and
WHEREAS, this marks the second championship for the Baton Rouge Fire
Department after winning the 2018 Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate team members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department
for winning the 2021 Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each
member of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, who participated in the 2021 Pensacola Beach
Firefighters Challenge.
