Commends Gregg Gothreaux on his many accomplishments and years of service with the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA). 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Gregg Gothreaux, President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development 3 Authority for his accomplishments and service with LEDA for twenty-one years. 4 WHEREAS, since 1980, Gregg Gothreaux has focused on improving the quality of 5 life for the citizens of Lafayette, Acadiana, and Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, a Louisiana native and graduate of Welsh High School, Gregg received 7 his Bachelor of Science degree from LSU in 1980 and went on to become a graduate of the 8 Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma and the Community 9 Development Institute at the University of Central Arkansas; and 10 WHEREAS, he received a Professional Community Developer Certification from 11 the Community Development Council and is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette V and 12 Leadership Louisiana; and 13 WHEREAS, Gregg began his career as an economic developer with Gulf States 14 Utilities in Lake Charles and developed a niche for business growth and expansion; he was 15 very successful guiding SWLA "Team City" communities; and in 1992, Site Selection and 16 Industrial Development Magazine selected GSU's business development group as one of the 17 top ten economic development groups in the United States; and 18 WHEREAS, in July 1995, Gregg was appointed President and CEO of the Lafayette Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 220 SLS 21RS-3659 ORIGINAL 1 Economic Development Authority (LEDA) and in his years there, he has contributed 2 substantially to the economic growth and stability of Lafayette, Acadiana, and Louisiana 3 through the organization's role in retaining and attracting some of the area's most influential 4 businesses; and 5 WHEREAS, his accomplishments have been highlighted by awards such as the 6 Richard E. Baudoin Jr. Award from the Acadiana Business Hall of Fame, the Distinguished 7 Alumnus Award from the Leadership Institute of Acadiana, the Lafayette Rotary Public 8 Service Vocational Award, the Economic Development Partner of the Year from the New 9 Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Lafayette Rotary Public Service Vocational 10 Award, and the Greek Excellence Award for Theta Xi from LSU; he was also named one of 11 the 25 Most Powerful People on the Interstate Corridor by 10/12 Magazine in their spring 12 2009 issue; and 13 WHEREAS, he is a member and former chair of the Louisiana Industrial 14 Development Executives Association, a member and former board member of the Southern 15 Economic Development Council, and a member of the International Economic Development 16 Council, International Council of Shopping Centers, Acadiana Economic Development 17 Council, and Council for A Better Louisiana; and 18 WHEREAS, Greg Gothreaux has served as chairman of the Lafayette Central Park 19 Planning & Design Construction Committee, as a member and former president of Kiwanis 20 of Lafayette, and as a member of the Regions Bank Regional Advisory Board, Lafayette 21 Central Park, Inc. Board, Lafayette Parish Master Gardener Association, One Acadiana CEO 22 Advisory Council, One Acadiana Executive Committee, and LSU AgCenter Lafayette Parish 23 Advisory Leadership Council, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Presidential 24 Transition Advisory Team- Economic Development & Research Team, the University of 25 Louisiana at Lafayette Disaster Resistant University Advisory Committee, Lafayette 26 Metropolitan Expressway Commission, LSU Extension Service Southwest Louisiana 27 Advisory Board, and Lafayette General Medical Center Membership Corporation, as a 28 mentor with the 705 Young Leaders Organization, as State Director of the Southern 29 Economic Development Council, Vice President of Finance and Friends of Scouting 30 Campaign Chair, Evangeline Area Boy Scouts, Heartwalk Chair, and was a co-founder of Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 220 SLS 21RS-3659 ORIGINAL 1 Network of Business Leaders (NOBL); and 2 WHEREAS, he has served as 2002-2003 Vice Chair and Executive Committee of the 3 Louisiana Economic Development Council, 2001 President of the Louisiana Industrial 4 Development Executives Association, Chairman of the LINC Economic Development 5 Subcommittee, President of the Kiwanis of Lafayette, and a member of the board of Greater 6 Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Lafayette Public Library Foundation, Find Work 7 Advisory Board, Junior Achievement, Festival International, the Acadian Chapter American 8 Heart Association, the International Trade Development Group, and Lafayette Health 9 Ventures Incorporated; and 10 WHEREAS, he served on the Governor Foster Economic Development Transition 11 Team and the Governor Blanco Economic Development Transition Team; and 12 WHEREAS, Gregg and his wife, Alisa, enjoy their job as parents to son, Conner 13 Thomas, and daughter, Eliza Grace, and Gregg is proud to be recognized as a certified 14 Louisiana Master Gardener; and 15 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 16 and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Gregg 17 Gothreaux, who devote and dedicate their considerable talents, resources, and time to 18 improve their community and enhance the lives of its citizens for the benefit of current and 19 future generations. 20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 21 hereby commends Gregg Gothreaux, President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic 22 Development Authority, for his accomplishments and service with LEDA for twenty-one 23 years. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 25 Gregg Gothreaux.
