SLS 21RS-983 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 240 BY SENATOR CORTEZ JUDGES. Requests the Supreme Court to make recommendations for the redistricting of election districts of the court. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To urge and request the Supreme Court of Louisiana to submit recommendations for 3 redistricting the election districts of the court based upon the 2020 decennial federal 4 census. 5 WHEREAS, R.S. 13:101.1(E) provides that the "legislature may redistrict the 6 supreme court following the year in which the population of this state is reported to the 7 president of the United States for each decennial federal census"; and 8 WHEREAS, R.S. 13:101 divides the state into seven supreme court districts with one 9 justice elected from each district; and 10 WHEREAS, in the exercise of its authority pursuant to R.S. 13:101.1(E), the Senate 11 seeks recommendations from the court regarding redistricting the election districts of the 12 court based upon the 2020 decennial federal census. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 14 does hereby urge and request the Supreme Court of Louisiana to submit recommendations 15 for redistricting the election districts of the court based upon the 2020 federal decennial 16 census to the Senate no later than sixty days after the P.L. 94-171 data of the 2020 decennial 17 federal census is reported to the state. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 240 SLS 21RS-983 ORIGINAL 1 to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
