2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 240 BY SENATOR CORTEZ A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Supreme Court of Louisiana to submit recommendations for redistricting the election districts of the court based upon the 2020 federal decennial census. WHEREAS, R.S. 13:101.1(E) provides that the "legislature may redistrict the supreme court following the year in which the population of this state is reported to the president of the United States for each federal decennial census"; and WHEREAS, R.S. 13:101 divides the state into seven supreme court districts with one justice elected from each district; and WHEREAS, in the exercise of its authority pursuant to R.S. 13:101.1(E), the Senate seeks recommendations from the court regarding redistricting the election districts of the court based upon the 2020 federal decennial census. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Supreme Court of Louisiana to submit recommendations for redistricting the election districts of the court based upon the 2020 federal decennial census to the Senate no later than December 31, 2021. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Louisiana. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 1 of 1
