SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46
BY SENATOR BERNARD 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf on being inducted into the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf on being named as a 2021 inductee
3 of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame collaborates with the Louisiana
5 Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the
6 character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the hall of fame; and
7 WHEREAS, the 2021 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes
8 Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf; and
9 WHEREAS, he was born on March 9, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi, and attended
10 Gulfport High School, where he was named Mississippi's Mr. Basketball twice and was also
11 a McDonald's All-American; and
12 WHEREAS, he attended Louisiana State University, where he was a standout
13 freshman and set the scoring record for a freshman, with 55 points in a single game, a
14 NCAA record for points by a freshman scoring 965 points in just thirty two games; and
15 WHEREAS, he was named SEC Player of the Year and First-Team All American
16 two years in a row; and
17 WHEREAS, he was selected as the third pick in the 1990 NBA draft by the Denver
18 Nuggets and in his nine seasons in the NBA he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second

1 Team and the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 1993, averaging 14.6 points and 3.5
2 rebounds throughout his NBA career; and
3 WHEREAS, after playing in the NBA, he played basketball for multiple international
4 leagues, namely, the Turkish Basketball League, the Russian Basketball Super League, the
5 Italian Basketball League, the Saudi Basketball League, and the Basketball Japan League;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, he is currently playing in the BIG3 Basketball League, a 3-on-3
8 basketball league, whose rosters include both former NBA players and international
9 basketball players.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby commend and congratulate Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, on being named as a 2021
12 inductee of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
14 Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
