Expresses condolences upon the death of Richard Sanders Morris Sr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Richard Sanders Morris Sr. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Richard Sanders Morris 6 Sr., on April 26, 2021, at age eighty-six; and 7 WHEREAS, a Baton Rouge native, Richard Sanders Morris Sr. was born on 8 April 20, 1935, in the family home on East State Street commonly known as Professors 9 Row; and 10 WHEREAS, Richard Morris was a graduate of University High and Louisiana State 11 University; at LSU he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and ROTC with a shaved head 12 and LSU beanie cap as was true of all freshman male students at the time; and 13 WHEREAS, he was also active in College Town Civic Association, of which he 14 served as President, and the Thursday Night Group; and 15 WHEREAS, Richard Morris was an active member of First Presbyterian church in 16 Baton Rouge, he served as an ordained Elder and Deacon; and 17 WHEREAS, until retirement Richard enjoyed the role of builder constructing 18 numerous houses and apartments in the LSU area; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 50 SLS 21RS-1485 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Richard Morris was a loving and devoted and beloved husband, and a 2 loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and 3 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by a brother Dedric Guthrie (Buddy), and his 4 parents Willis Dedric and Louise Livar Morris; and 5 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Cynthia Gallent Morris; 6 his sons Richard Jr. and wife Rachel Lay, Dedric Gallent and wife Renee Griffon, and Allan 7 Waller and wife Brenda Anderson; his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, William 8 Gallent and wife Ashlyn, Christine Jessica, Jackson Gallent, Jordan Griffon and 9 great-granddaughter Alden Katherine Morris; sister-in-law Jo Gallent, and numerous nieces 10 and 11 nephews; and 12 WHEREAS, having lived a long life committed to work, family, faith, and his 13 community, Richard Sanders Morris Sr. certainly left Baton Rouge a better place than he 14 found it and wonderful memories of him will be cherished by his wife, his family, his 15 church, and his community. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 does hereby express its sincere condolences upon the death of Richard Sanders Morris Sr. 18 of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 20 Cynthia Gallent Morris.
