Designates May 26, 2021, as 4-H Day at the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana and commends the state 4-H officers. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To designate May 26, 2021, as 4-H Day at the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana and 3 commend the state 4-H officers. 4 WHEREAS, 4-H is the largest youth development organization, empowering more 5 than six million young people throughout the United States of America; and 6 WHEREAS, through America's land-grant universities, 4-H reaches every corner of 7 the United States, from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming 8 communities; and 9 WHEREAS, 4-H represents head, heart, hands, and health as core values of all 10 members, ages eight to eighteen, and works to develop each through engaging programs; and 11 WHEREAS, the Louisiana main office of 4-H is the premier youth development 12 program of the Louisiana State University AgCenter Cooperative Extension System, and 13 includes clubs, camps, and after-school programs that help members become responsible 14 citizens leading healthy and productive lives; and 15 WHEREAS, with a network of more than six million that includes more than five 16 hundred thousand volunteers, more than three thousand professionals, and more than 17 twenty-five million alumni, 4-H helps to shape our country's youth in ways that no other 18 youth organization does; it empowers all members to reach their full potential, working and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 59 SLS 21RS-1181 ORIGINAL 1 learning in partnership with caring adults, and growing together as catalysts for positive 2 change; and 3 WHEREAS, 4-H'ers engage in hands-on learning activities in the areas of science, 4 citizenship, and healthy living; and 5 WHEREAS, 4-H girls are two times more likely in grade ten, and nearly three times 6 more likely in grade twelve, to take part in science programs; 4-H boys and girls are four 7 times more likely to contribute to their communities, including economic achievement and 8 civic engagement; and 9 WHEREAS, the 4-H program is enhanced by leading corporations, foundations, and 10 organizations whose support allows the development of cutting edge models for young 11 people to learn real-world skills that better prepare them for the challenges of today and 12 tomorrow; and 13 WHEREAS, the national 4-H social networks and social media communities are 14 managed by the National 4-H Council and help to further first of its kind research projects 15 to reveal how young people benefit from life-changing experiences; and 16 WHEREAS, the state 4-H officers are Anna Little, president; Ty Hebert, 17 vice-president; Emily Deshotel, secretary; Avery VandeVen, historian/reporter; and Mallory 18 Meaux, treasurer; and 19 WHEREAS, each officer works with the entire membership to improve their heads 20 for managing clearer thinking, their hearts for caring and greater loyalty, their hands for 21 giving and enlarging service, and their health to better living, all done for their club, their 22 community, their country, and their world. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 24 does hereby designate May 26, 2021, as 4-H Day at the Senate of the Legislature of 25 Louisiana and commends the state 4-H officers. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 27 state 4-H president, Anna Little.
