Commends Marques Colston on being inducted into the 2021 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Marques Colston for his induction into the 2021 class of the Louisiana Sports 3 Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, Marques Colston was born on June 5, 1983, in Harrisburg, 5 Pennsylvania; and 6 WHEREAS, Marques Colston will be inducted into the 2021 class of the Louisiana 7 Sports Hall of Fame as the all-time leading receiver for the New Orleans Saints, joining two 8 of LSU's greatest competitors, basketball's Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and football's Glenn 9 Dorsey, along with former LSU track and field coach Pat Henry and Southern Jaguar and 10 MLB baseball star, Rickie Weeks; and 11 WHEREAS, he was a seventh-round daft pick in 2006 (252nd overall) for the New 12 Orleans Saints; and 13 WHEREAS, Marques Colston, a product of Hofstra University, easily became the 14 most productive receiver in Saints history in his ten-year career span from 2006 to 2015; and 15 WHEREAS, quiet and reserved off the field but competitive on it, Marques Colston 16 quickly became one of the cornerstones of Head Coach Sean Payton's first Saints team; and 17 WHEREAS, Colston's six feet, four inch, two hundred twenty-five pound size 18 combined with his willingness to go over the middle and make the touch catch made him an Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 69 SLS 21RS-932 ORIGINAL 1 instant favorite for new quarterback, Drew Brees; and 2 WHEREAS, the skill and tenacity of Marques Colston helped the New Orleans 3 Saints win the NFC South title and reach the NFC championship game as Colston made the 4 all-rookie team; and 5 WHEREAS, three years later, Marques Colston and the New Orleans Saints won the 6 NFC crown and the franchise's only championship with a thirty-one to seventeen victory 7 over Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV; and 8 WHEREAS, in his ten year career, Colston played in one hundred forty-six games 9 with one hundred six starts and caught seven hundred eleven passes for nine thousand seven 10 hundred fifty-nine yards, both club records; and 11 WHEREAS, an especially inviting target in the red zone because he towered over 12 most defenders and could easily come down with Brees' patented back-shoulder throws, 13 Colston also scored seventy-two touchdowns for another franchise record and tied Joe Horn 14 for the most one hundred yard games in club history with twenty-eight; and 15 WHEREAS, Marques Colston has one hundred fifty yards or more in six of those 16 games, topped by a ten-catch, one hundred sixty-nine yard performance versus Pittsburgh 17 in 2006; and 18 WHEREAS, for his career, Marques Colston had one hundred eighty-nine more 19 receptions and one thousand nine hundred five more receiving yards than Louisiana Sports 20 Hall of Fame member, Eric Martin, and twenty-two more touchdowns than Horn, elected to 21 the LSHOF's 2020 class; and 22 WHEREAS, Colston produced six, one thousand yard receiving seasons with a best 23 of one thousand two hundred two yards in 2007 when he also had a club single-season 24 ninety-eight receptions and scored eleven touchdowns; and 25 WHEREAS, Marques Colston grabbed another fifty-eight passes for seven hundred 26 eighty-eight yards and had four scores in ten post-season contests, catching seven balls for 27 eighty-three yards in the Super Bowl XLIV win. 28 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 29 does hereby commend and extend heartfelt congratulations to Marques Colston for his 30 induction into the 2021 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame due to his career as the Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 69 SLS 21RS-932 ORIGINAL 1 all-time leading receiver for the New Orleans Saints. 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 3 Marques Colston.
