Commends Ubert Terrell on his 101 st birthday and for his military service. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Ubert Terrell on his one hundred and first birthday and for his military service. 3 WHEREAS, Ubert Terrell was born on April 2, 1920, in Tylertown, Mississippi, the 4 fourth of six children born to Martin and Ollie Ball Terrell; and 5 WHEREAS, the family moved to Red River Parish and later, after his father died in 6 1928 when Ubert was eight years old, his mother moved the family, including siblings Lola, 7 Dalcus, Ester Lee, and Johnny, all now deceased, and LC and Ubert to St. Tammany Parish, 8 as she had family there; and 9 WHEREAS, proceeds of a life insurance policy maintained on Martin enabled his 10 mother to keep the family clothed and fed during the Great Depression; and 11 WHEREAS, Ubert graduated from high school in 1938 and was with the Civilian 12 Conservation Corps from 1939 to 1941; because he could type, he was made Assistant 13 Educational Advisor and taught illiterate adults how to read and write; and 14 WHEREAS, he married the late Nanetta Adams Terrell and they had three children, 15 Bruce and Keith, both deceased, and Aubrey Ray; he is blessed with four grandchildren, five 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and 17 WHEREAS, Ubert served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 as a Technical 18 Sergeant, 100th Troop Carrier Squadron 441st Troop Carrier Group; he was an Aerial Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 83 SLS 21RS-1468 ORIGINAL 1 Engineer (C-46 and C-47 Airplane Crew Chief), and took part in the following battles and 2 campaigns: Rome - Arno, Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rhineland, 3 Ardennes, and Central Europe WDGO 33 45; and 4 WHEREAS, he received many decorations and citations, including the Air Medal 5 with two Oak Leaf Clusters Go 51 lXX, TCC July 1944 GO 38 HQ lX TCC October 1944; 6 GO 123 TCC December 1944; Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68; Unit Citation SO 212 HQ 7 lX AF August 1944; EAMETO Medal; and 8 WHEREAS, Ubert Terrell is the oldest living member of the International Union of 9 Operating Engineers, Local 406, having been a member since 1952; and 10 WHEREAS, as the country cherishes its ever-dwindling remaining World War II 11 veterans, it is important to celebrate the invaluable contributions of men such as Ubert 12 Terrell, who saw what needed to be done, put their lives on hold, and at great personal peril, 13 fought to retain the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, the 14 Constitution, and the Bill of Rights for all Americans, and for that effort, Ubert Terrell is 15 honored on his one hundredth first birthday for being a true American hero in every sense 16 of the word and deserving of all honor. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 18 does hereby commend and congratulate Ubert Terrell on the happy occasion of his one 19 hundred and first birthday; does recognize and herald his service to our country during his 20 tour of duty in the United States Army; and does hereby express best wishes for many more 21 years. 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ubert 23 Terrell.
