[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 1019 Original 2022 Regular Session DuBuisson Abstract: Makes changes to the examination and licensing requirements for persons seeking a license from the La. Cosmetology Board (board). Present law allows a person with an out-of-state license, in a field regulated by the board, to receive a license if they pass a test provided by the board and pay the required fees. Proposed law retains present law in part, but removes the examination requirement to allow for license portability. Present law requires a person applying for a license from the board to satisfy various requirements prior to being issued a license. As part of the requirements in present law, the applicant is required to take and pass a practical examination. Proposed law removes the practical examination from the list of requirements and retains the remainder of the qualifications. Present law allows an applicant to take an examination for licensure upon completion of all educational course work. Proposed law still allows an applicant to take an examination after completion of the coursework, but also allows an applicant to take an examination upon completion of 75% of the coursework. (Amends R.S. 37:586(A)(2) and (B) and 595(B)(1); Adds R.S. 37:586(F); Repeals R.S. 37:582(C)(2) and 599(A)(1)(b))
