HOUSE BILL NO. 240

MASSAGE THERAPISTS:  Provides relative to the licensed profession of massage therapy
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 37:3556(F), relative to the licensure of massage therapists; to provide for a
3 provisional license for massage therapy graduates; to provide for renewal of a
4 provisional license upon expiration or first-time failure of the Board of Massage
5 Therapy examination; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 37:3556(F) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง3556.  Licensure; qualifications

10	F.  The board shall make available to any graduate of a state-approved,
11 Louisiana-based school for massage therapy a provisional license for immediate use
12 upon graduation at an established massage therapy business registered with the
13 board.  The provisional license will be active for a three-month term and may be
14 renewed once upon expiration or following first-time failure to pass the examination
15 adopted by the board as required by the provisions of this Section.

Abstract:  Allows graduates of state-approved, Louisiana-based massage therapy schools
to receive a three-month provisional license upon graduation and a one-time renewal
of the provisional license. 
Present law states the qualifications for licensure to the La. Board of Massage Therapy
(board) and provides the methods for issuance to those qualified licensees. 
Proposed law grants a three-month provisional license to massage therapy graduates in
preparation for the board exam. 
Proposed law provides a one-time renewal of the three-month provisional license in the
event of first-time failure of the board exam.
