Abstract:  Increases the number of tribal officers of the Coushatta Tribe of La. who are eligible for
supplemental pay from 8 to 20 and removes requirement for approval of the sheriff of Allen
Parish.
Present law provides for supplemental pay of $500 per month for any full-time police officer paid
by any municipality or by the Chitimacha Tribe of La., Coushatta Tribe of La., or the Tunica-Biloxi
Tribe of La. who has passed a council-certified training program and completed one year of service. 
Present law limits the number of tribal officers from the Chitimacha Tribe, Coushatta Tribe, and the
Tunica-Biloxi Tribe who are eligible for supplemental pay. Limits the number of tribal officers of
the Coushatta Tribe of La. to 8, subject to approval of the sheriff of Allen Parish.
Proposed law increases the number of eligible tribal officers of the Coushatta Tribe of La. from 8
to 20, and removes the requirement for approval of the sheriff of Allen Parish.
Effective July 1, 2023.
(Amends R.S. 40:1667.1(A)(3)(a) and (F)(3))
