New law requires a health coverage plan in this state that offers mental health and substance
abuse benefits to provide coverage for mental health and substance abuse services delivered
through evidence-based, integrated behavioral healthcare models, such as the Psychiatric
Collaborative Care Model.
New law requires any medical necessity determinations made by a health coverage plan to
be made in compliance with certain federal and state law (R.S. 22:2391 et seq.).
New law defines "health coverage plan", "mental health or substance abuse benefits", and
"Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model". 
New law applies to any new health coverage plan issued on or after Jan. 1, 2023.  Further
requires any health coverage plan in effect prior to Jan. 1, 2023 to convert to conform to the
provisions of new law on or before the renewal date, but no later than Jan. 1, 2024.
Effective August 1, 2022.
