Abstract: Abolishes the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners, consolidates its functions
with those of the La. State Board of Nursing, and provides for the La. State Board of Nursing
to become the successor in every way to the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.
Present law creates and provides for the following boards:
(1)The La. State Board of Nursing, which licenses registered nurses and regulates the practice
of nursing in this state.
(2)The La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners, which licenses practical nurses and
regulates the practice of practical nursing in this state.
Proposed law abolishes the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners and transfers its duties and
functions to the La. State Board of Nursing.
Proposed law encompasses transfer provisions pursuant to which the La. State Board of Nursing
becomes the successor in every way to the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.
Upon the effective date of proposed law, the provisions of proposed law effectuating the full
succession of the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners by the La. State Board of Nursing
become effective on July 1, 2023.
Proposed law requires the La. State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners and the La. State Board of
Nursing to take such actions prior to July 1, 2023, including but not limited to amending, adopting,
and repealing administrative rules, as are necessary to implement the provisions of proposed law on
that date.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.

4.1(B)(23); Adds R.S. 37:913(17) and (18), 916(C), 918(22) and (23), 920.2, and 920.3; Repeals
